Saturday 29 November 2003, before the Political and Administrative
Authorities and Personalities from the Cultural and Artistic fields the
Ceremony of Proclamation of Nicoli Sculpture Studios in Carrara as “Site
Messenger of Peace” according to the Unesco 2000 Project took place.
The first part of the Ceremony was held in the large workshop of Nicoli
Studios at 11.00 a.m. and the following people gave their contribution:
Maria Grazia Passani – President of the Unesco “Carrara dei Marmi” Club
Tullia Carettoni – President of the Italina Unesco Commission
Maria Luisa Stringa – President of the Italian Federation of Unesco
Centres and Clubs
Gennaro Tampone – Lecturer at the University of Florence, Executive
Member of the Italian Committee ICOMOS
Gioia De Cristofaro Longo – Lecturer of Cultural Anthropology at the
University “La Sapienza” Roma
Lola Goujon – Responsible for the International Relations, in Unesco
Paris
Mario Venutelli – President of “Italia Nostra”, Apuo-Versilian Section
Carlo Nicoli – Owner of Nicoli Sculpture Studios in Carrara
Andrea Zanetti – Town Councillor for Culture, Municipality of Carrara
The Mayor of Carrara Giulio Conti finally presented the marble
Inscription in memory of the event
In the afternoon the Conference on the tradition of Sculpture in
Carrara and the primary role played by Nicoli Sculpture Studios in the
intercultural and peace dialogue through Art was held in the great
hall of the Fine Art Academy in Carrara, during which the following people
gave their contribution:

The reason for the prestigious appreciation of Unesco to the Nicoli
Sculpture Studios is the following:
16.8.2000 - CARRARA (ITALY) The historical Nicoli
workshop where the greatest contemporary artists and artists from the past
created marble sculptures, in front of the majestic Apuan Alps, the
mountains where the famous quarries are, was proclaimed “bearer of a peace
message”. |
